Rochester, NY – January 4, 2023 – D3 and Texas Instruments (TI) will be demonstrating a sensor-fusion and AI-enabled functionally safe autonomous mobile robot at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023. The demonstration includes vision-based navigation and inventory scanning with D3’s cameras, the TI TDA4VM processor and other TI technologies. This next-generation robot is a development platform for industrial applications.

The demonstrator robot developed collaboratively by D3 and TI integrates several technologies. These include D3’s FS-6843AOP-IMX390 vision/radar fusion sensors, the TI SK-TDA4VM starter kit for edge AI, the TI IWR6843AOP radar sensor, and the TI DLP® products DLP3021LEQ1EVM evaluation module. D3 worked with TI to integrate these components with Robot Operating System (ROS) and an example mechanical platform from SCUTTLE Robotics into a working demonstrator. CES attendees can watch the robot navigate around a storeroom mockup and scan inventory tags. Additionally, attendees will be able to safely interact with the robot and see how it responds to their presence to simulate contact avoidance. The display will also feature a video describing the robot’s construction and operation in a warehouse environment. The demonstration video was filmed in Simcona Electronics Corporation’s warehouse. Simcona is one of D3’s supply chain partners that delivers sourcing, procurement, logistics, inventory management, and manufacturing services.
“We are excited to continue collaborating with TI in adding to this mobile robot demo”, said Tom Mayo, D3’s Product Manager supporting TI embedded processors. Tom continued to say, “This robot demonstration showcases vision-based navigation and inventory scanning, sensor fusion, ROS integration, and DLP technology-based dynamic ground projection. Sensor fusion allows the robot to locate, identify, and track objects and people in the area to navigate and avoid contact. We are very interested in meeting CES attendees who could use the technologies we are demonstrating and discuss their unique applications.”
The demonstration will be presented at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada from January 5 to 8, 2023. To experience the robot demonstration, visit Texas Instruments in LVCC North Hall, room N115.
