D3 Engineering and Texas Instruments (TI) will be premiering a sensor-fusion and AI-enabled functionally safe autonomous mobile robot at the world’s leading trade fair and conference for electronics: electronica. This next-generation robot is a development platform for industrial applications and features a TI TDA4VM processor alongside D3’s radar sensors and camera modules.
The demonstrator robot developed collaboratively by D3 and TI integrates several technologies. These include D3’s FS-6843AOP-IMX390 vision/radar fusion sensors, TI’s SK-TDA4VM starter kit for edge AI, TI’s IWR6843AOP mmWave radar sensor, TI’s DLP3021LEQ1EVM, and TI’s LAUNCHXL-F280039C C2000 EVM. D3 worked with TI to integrate these components with Robot Operating System (ROS) and an example mechanical platform from SCUTTLE Robotics into a working demonstrator. Attendees will be able to safely interact with the robot and see how it responds to their presence to simulate contact avoidance. Additionally, attendees can watch a demonstration video of the robot in motion in a warehouse environment. The demonstration video was filmed in Simcona Electronics Corporation’s warehouse. Simcona is one of D3’s supply chain partners that delivers sourcing, procurement, logistics, inventory management, and manufacturing services.
“We are thrilled to continue collaborating with TI in developing this mobile robot demo”, said Tom Mayo, D3’s Product Manager for TI embedded processors. Tom continued to say, “This robot demonstration showcases sensor fusion, ROS integration, motor control, and DLP projection. Sensor fusion allows the robot to locate, identify, and track objects and people in the area to avoid contact. The demo also showcases the responses of the robot both in its drive motor control and with a DLP projected signaling to alert bystanders to its actions. We are very interested in discussing how electronica attendees could use the technologies we are demonstrating in their unique applications.”
The exhibition will be held at the Trade Fair Center Messe München in Munich, Germany from November 15 through November 18. To experience the robot demonstration, visit Texas Instruments at Hall C4, booth 157.
