These customers are looking forward to new applications possible with this DaVinci™ chipset. With more peripherals subsystems built into the new processors, fewer chips are required for a system and products can become even smaller. Designs can be simplified and BOM's will become more compact. These improvements, plus a new aggressive pricing structure for the chips are giving manufacturers even more incentive to develop new products and applications. "We are actively designing products for our customers based on the new low-cost DaVinci™ DSP chips," said Scott Reardon, CEO of D3 Engineering. "In addition to providing engineering development on the chipset, D3 is also extending our popular line of CDK's (Camera Developer Kits) to include the 64LC evaluation module. The CDK allows engineers to quickly start a CMOS or CCD based project on various families of Texas Instruments DSP's. Our existing customers that rely heavily on digital image processing are eager to take advantage of the quicker time to market and the cost savings afforded by these chips." D3 Engineering is focused solely on Texas Instruments DSP platforms and is considered to be an authority in realizing their benefits. The company was an early adopter of the DaVinci™ technology, upgrading the D3 Camera Develop Kits (CDK) to the DaVinci™ evaluation platform. Leveraging a strong background in image processing, D3 will be able to harness the performance and peripherals of the new DaVinci™ processors for their customers. "Medical imaging, automotive vision and driver safety assistance, machine vision and military surveillance are just a few of the digital video applications that will change the products and services we will experience in the very near future," said Gerard Andrews, DSP marketing manager, Texas Instruments . "We are partnering with experts like D3 Engineering to capture these exploding markets by making sure they have the most advanced technology at the right price."
